Frequently asked questions

What payment types do you accept?

You can choose to pay for your Christmas tree online when you place your order - we accept almost all types of credit and debit card. Just choose Paypal when you check out and then select your chosen card.

You can also choose to pay by cash or cheque on delivery of your tree. To do so, just select the payment on delivery option when you check out – this will confirm your order and payment will be payable when we deliver. It is a great help to us if you have your payment handy when we arrive. Cheques should be payable to The Hanover Christmas Tree Company and require a guarantee card.

Where are your Christmas trees grown?

Our nordman fir trees are grown on farms in Sussex, Kent and Hampshire, within 50 miles of Brighton and Hove. They are taken from sustainably managed plantations where cut trees are replaced on an ongoing basis. All our farms are, like us, members of the British Christmas Tree Growers’ Association and all of our Christmas trees are grown under the Association's Environmental Code of Practice.

Do you deliver to my area?

Our standard Christmas tree delivery service (£7.99) covers Brighton and Hove, west as far as Shoreham-by-Sea and east as far as Saltdean. We also offer standard Christmas tree delivery to Lewes. We can deliver to other locations within 15 miles of Brighton, but for these orders a delivery surcharge.

For more information, see our Christmas tree delivery page.

Can I specify the height of my tree?

When you buy your tree online, you are guaranteed a tree of a certain minimum height (so if you order a 4-foot Christmas tree, the tree you receive will be of a minimum of 4 feet). The tree that you receive will not be more than 1 foot taller than the minimum height specified. Note that trees are measured from trunk to tip.

It can be hard to picture the height of your tree when you order online and for this reason we endeavour to carry spare trees to allow you to upgrade to a larger size or downgrade to a smaller size on delivery. However, we cannot guarantee that this will always be possible so we encourage you to measure up as well as possible before ordering to make sure you’re happy with your chosen tree.

Can I specify the shape of my tree?

We select our Christmas trees to be as regular as possible in shape. While they are still growing, Christmas trees are marked by size and also according to their shape. As we sell only selected premium-quality trees, the shape of the trees within a variety is surprisingly consistent. They tend to be full, bushy trees without the ‘bare bits’ or ‘missing branches’ that you often see in garden centres and DIY stores. In our experience, customers asking for ‘a nice full tree’, ‘a bushy tree’ and ‘a symmetrical tree’ are always very happy with the tree they receive.

Based on several years of supplying real Christmas trees to customers in Brighton and Hove, we are certain that you will be pleased with the shape of your tree – so we offer a guarantee to change it free of charge if you’re not.

Can I choose my own Christmas tree?

Many people enjoy the experience of choosing their Christmas tree and we have made this possible by running a Christmas tree shop during December at the Hanover Community Centre in Brighton. Visit our Brighton Christmas tree shop page for more information about opening times.

Christmas tree delivery is available from our Brighton shop as well as from our website. So you can choose your tree in person, then have it delivered to your home on a specified date.

Do I need to be at home when you deliver my tree?

If you have paid for your Christmas tree online, you do not need to be at home when we deliver your tree. You just need to add specific instructions to your delivery order so that we know where the tree should be left if you are out. But please note that we do not accept any liability for Christmas trees that we have left in a space that you have specified, so please be sure that it is sufficiently secure or out of site.

If you select to pay cash or cheque on delivery, you do need to be at home when we deliver your tree.

Can I work for you?

We are always looking for reliable, friendly and hard-working team members to work on a seasonal basis in our customer services, delivery and retail teams. Please send an email to info@hanoverchristmastrees.co.uk if you would like to be considered.
